About Świętokrzyski National Park

Świętokrzyski National Park, established in 1950, is one of Poland's oldest national parks located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. It encompasses part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, among the oldest mountain ranges in Europe, characterized by gentle ridges, deep valleys, and dense forests dominated by fir and beech. The park spans an area of approximately 76.4 square kilometers, preserving a range of habitats from mixed woodlands to rocky outcrops and peat bogs. This diversity supports a wide variety of flora and fauna, including rare species such as the European lynx, black stork, and various endemic plants. The park also protects geologically significant sites, like the Łysica and Łysa Góra peaks, which are steeped in local legend and history dating back to medieval times when pagan rituals and later Christian pilgrimages took place. Visitors to Świętokrzyski National Park can explore over 40 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails that weave through viewpoints, caves, and nature reserves. Key attractions include the observation tower on Łysica, the Holy Cross Monastery near Łysa Góra, and fossil-rich sandstone cliffs. The park also offers educational tours and opportunities for birdwatching and photography. While camping facilities are limited within the park boundary, nearby towns provide accommodations. Ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and cultural history enthusiasts, Świętokrzyski National Park blends natural beauty with rich heritage, making it a captivating destination year-round.
